How to judge the cutting quality of a laser cutting machine
Source:   Author:

With the continuous development of social production and the continuous progress of industrial processing technology, laser cutting technology is also constantly advancing. Laser cutting machines are widely used in the sheet metal processing industry due to their advantages such as fast cutting speed, high accuracy, and smooth cutting seams and incisions. So how should we verify the quality of laser cutting machines? Below, the editor will introduce several criteria for distinguishing the quality of laser cutting machines.

1、 Roughness

When the laser beam emitted by the laser cutting machine acts on the metal sheet, it forms vertical patterns. The deeper the pattern, the rougher the cutting surface. In daily use, it is usually necessary to minimize roughness, so the shallower the texture, the higher the cutting quality.

2、 Cutting width

The cutting width generally does not affect the cutting quality, but because the cutting width determines the minimum inner diameter of the contour, when a particularly precise contour is formed inside the component, it will affect the cutting quality. Generally, the narrower the cutting width, the higher the cutting quality. As the thickness of the sheet increases, the cutting width also increases. So to ensure high-quality cutting results, a good laser cutting opportunity maximizes the stability of the workpiece processing area.

3、 Verticality

If the thickness of the cut material exceeds 10mm, attention should be paid to the perpendicularity of the cutting edge. The more perpendicular the cutting edge, the higher the cutting quality. As the laser beam moves away from the focus, it gradually diverges and widens towards the bottom or top according to the position of the focus, causing the cutting edge to deviate from the vertical line and thus affecting the cutting effect.

4、 Burr

During the processing of a laser cutting machine, the energy released by the laser beam shining on the surface of the workpiece melts and evaporates, while the auxiliary gas blows away the slag on the surface of the workpiece, thereby achieving the cutting of the workpiece. If auxiliary gas is not used, burrs will form on the cutting surface after the slag cools down. Burrs are a crucial factor in determining the quality of laser cutting, as removing burrs requires additional work, so the less burrs there are, the higher the cutting quality.

5、 Depression and corrosion

Depression and corrosion can have adverse effects on the cutting surface and also affect the appearance. Therefore, a good laser cutting machine should avoid dents and corrosion.

6、 Heat affected zone

The heat affected zone refers to the depth of the area where the internal structure of a metal undergoes changes. The shallower the depth of variation, the higher the cutting quality. During the laser cutting process, the area near the incision will be heated, which will also cause changes in the metal structure and have a negative impact on the cutting quality.

7、 Deformation

If cutting causes sharp heating of metal components, deformation will occur. This is particularly important in precision machining. High quality laser cutting machines usually have higher controllability, which can better control laser power, reduce component heating when using short laser pulses, and avoid deformation.
